The following letter was sent home to parents and guardians via SchoolMessenger on Aug. 13.

Dear parents, guardians and eligible students,

On August 9, 2019, the District was informed by Orange Ulster BOCES of an incident believed to have occurred in or around November 2018, involving the unauthorized access of Personally Identifiable Information from the AIMSweb 1.0 system, which is a platform that was utilized by the Warwick Valley Central School District and provided by Pearson, Incorporated. Over 900 schools in New York state alone were affected and several other thousands across the U.S.

Warwick Valley Central School District had stopped subscribing to AIMSWeb before even knowing about this incident.

The following data about your student(s) that was potentially affected was limited to: first name, last name and date of birth.

Please know that Warwick Valley Central School District is committed to protecting and securing educational data. Our team has extensive training in data security and privacy and our systems have many controls in place to protect your child’s educational records.

Additionally, we have received assurances that Pearson has taken the necessary steps to mitigate the incident and is enhancing protections to guard against similar events.

While it is our understanding that there is no evidence that the information described above has been misused, Pearson is offering complimentary credit monitoring from Experian for one year for affected individuals as a precautionary measure. If you are interested in learning more about this option, please call Pearson at 866-883-3309 or e-mail

Please contact the office of curriculum and Instruction at with any questions you may have regarding this incident and our response.
