A letter from WVMS Principal, Ms. G. Diopoulos

February 12, 2018

Dear 6th grade Parents/Guardians,

As we approach the middle of February, I would like to say how pleased the Warwick Valley Middle School administration is with the progress our 6th grade students have made thus far. They have developed strong study habits while enhancing reading, writing and problem solving skills.

As we prepare for the 2018-19 school year, we would like to make you aware of some differences you will see in your child’s schedule for 7th grade.

  • All seventh grade students will receive a minimum of one period of English, Math, Science and Social Studies.
  • In addition, your child will begin their study of a World Language. They will have the opportunity to decide between Chinese, French, and Spanish. This course is designed as a two-year course that will extend over 7th and 8th grade. Upon successful completion of both years, students will earn one high school credit.

Wednesday, February 14 – Your child will participate in an assembly where they will learn about their World Language options. Please discuss this with your child so that you may make an informed decision regarding their World Language Choice.

Beginning Monday, February 12 – All 6th grade parents will have the ability to enter their child’s World Language selection directly into the Parent Portal.

Please note that Parent Portal will close this option on Friday, February 23, 2018.

To make a foreign language course selection in Parent Portal, follow the steps below:

  • Log into the WVCSD Parent Portal
  • After logging in and accessing your child’s profile, click Course Request at the top of the screen (see red arrow in screenshot image below)

  • Once on the Course Request page, click NEW REQUEST.
  • From the dropdown list in Department, choose Foreign Languages
  • Choose your desired course from the dropdown list (Chinese 7, French 7, Spanish 7)
  • Click Save
  • If you would like to change your request, click the red X and delete the choice, then create a new request and repeat the steps above.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the World Language requirement, please contact your child’s counselor, Mrs. Ogden, or any member of the administrative team.

Thank you for your continued support of the middle school. We look forward to a productive and successful conclusion of the school year.
