MS 5th graders view railroad model of historic Warwick at Buckbee Center

on December 14, 2015

Last week, Warwick Valley Middle School 5th grade classes took a field trip to the “Festival of Toys” at the Buckbee Center, hosted by the Warwick Historical Society. The visit was part of a “Transportation and Commerce” lesson developed by the Warwick Historical Society’s Teacher Team, in cooperation with Grade 5 teachers. While visiting the Buckbee Center, students viewed the model railroad of the Warwick Valley, with scale replicas of historic Warwick buildings, as well as historic toys, doll houses, dolls and clothing on display. While viewing the model railroad, students were treated to a history lesson, learning how the railroad helped change the Warwick community. Classes also visited Baird’s Tavern for photo and map study of trains and businesses in Warwick during the 1800s and early 1900s.
