Middle School’s Dumbledore’s Army collects plenty of supplies for Warwick Humane Society through S.P.E.W. drive

on February 2, 2017

Members of the Middle School’s Dumbeldore’s Army club recently organized a successful drive to benefit the animals of the Warwick Humane Society. The club collected 72 cans of cat food, more than 44 pounds of dog treats and 40 miscellaneous needed items such as paper towels and cleaning supplies to give to “our non-human friends” this winter.

Dumbeldore’s Army is an extension of the worldwide Harry Potter Alliance. Members see the characters of Harry Potter as role models for action in the real world, and seek to promote the messages of love, acceptance and social change that the books embody.

Dumbledore’s Army meets weekly to discuss the Harry Potter book series, to watch and analyze the movie versions, to role-play scenes or participate in activities from both, and to do community outreach that is inspired by the story.

The S.P.E.W. Drive that brought in donations for the Humane Society was inspired by the character Hermoine, who feels that the magical creatures called House Elves are not treated with respect, simply because they are non-human. She begins an organization called S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) in order to bring awareness to their unfair treatment.

We hope our S.P.E.W. Drive helps our non-human friends this winter, and the community members who take care of them at the Warwick Humane Society. Thank you to all who contributed!
