As Memorial Day approaches, students in the District wanted to honor veterans in some way, and invited them to the high school for a district-wide ceremony.

After the Presentation of the Colors by a Marine Color Guard from Dover, N.J., and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by kindergarten students Colin Sullivan and Valentina Prestigiacomo, Superintendent Dr. David Leach gave his Welcome Address to the vets.

There were patriotic musical performances by the 8th Grade Orchestra, Mrs. Canfield’s and Mrs. Taylor’s kindergarten classes, the Warwick Valley High School Meistersingers and the Elementary School Band.

WVHS alum Shane Connolly, who is the son of Sanfordville teacher Dianne Connolly, also spoke to the audience, relaying his admiration for the group of vets in attendance. Shane will graduate this May from West Point.

There was a special presentation for the Hudson Valley Honor Flight organization of $250 from the High School Interact Club and, finally, touching closing remarks by Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Nicholas DiLeo.
