Four seniors sign letters of intent to pursue collegiate athletics

On Wednesday, Nov. 20, four student-athletes put pen to paper and signed their Letters of Intent to pursue athletics at the collegiate level.

Devin Boone, Hannah Hennessy, Brandon Ortiz and Gabriella Rusek signed their acceptance letters in front of family and friends during a ceremony in their honor.

Each of them thanked their families, coaches, teachers and friends for their support and helping them to succeed.

Devin Boone 

Devin plans on attending Marist College of Poughkeepsie, New York, where he will study business and finance and compete as a baseball player for the Marist Foxes.      

Career Highlights

  • Three year varsity starter and middle infielder for Warwick baseball
  • Batted a .409 average including an OBP of .529, 29 stolen bases and 49 runs scored, including a .897 fielding percentage
  • Named Times Herald Record All Star for Baseball
  • Named World Wood Bat Association All Star and competed in WWBA Championships

Academic Accomplishments

  • 92.7 GPA, ranked in top 30 percent of his class.
  • NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete (Football and Baseball)
  • Started as defensive back for the Wildcats during the 2019-20 school year
     

Hannah Hennessy

Hannah plans on attending James Madison University of Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she will study psychology and compete as a softball player for the JMU Dukes.     

Career Highlights

  • Was a four year varsity starter and centerfielder for the Section IX Champion Warwick Wildcats
  • Batted .450 as a junior with team leading 18 RBIs
  • Named Varsity 845 and Section IX 1 Team All Star Centerfielder. 
  • Led the team in fielding percentage 1000 percent (perfect) zero errors junior campaign.
     

Academic Accomplishments

  • 93 percent GPA, ranked in the top 25 percent of her class
  • 4 Year NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete (Softball)
  • Member of National Honor Society 
     

Gabriella Rusek 

Gabby plans on attending the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where she will study Mathematics and International Affairs and compete as a soccer player for the Miami Hurricanes.      

Career Highlights

  • Five year varsity player and four year starter for Division Championships.
  • Three time section IX All-Star, two time All-State Player as center midfielder.
  • Her 2018 season includes 19 goals and 12 assists.
     

Academic Accomplishments

  • 99.8 percent GPA, ranked in the top 10 percent of her class.
  • Five year NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete (Soccer)
  • Member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society 

Brandon Ortiz 

Brandon plans on attending the Binghamton University of Binghamton, New York where he will study Business Administration and compete as a baseball player for the Binghamton Bearcats.     

Career Highlights

  • Five year varsity [layer with over .900 fielding percentage as a junior.
  • Outstanding leader and Captain of the infield
  • He played every inning for the past two seasons for the varsity team, which won two division titles during that tenure.  
     

Academic Accomplishments

  • 87.6 GPA
  • Vice President of the Spanish Club
  • His Senior Project centered around creating a baseball camp for the youth
