COMPONENT: Eye Contact
DISTINGUISHED – 9.5 – 10.0
- Direct, lingering and comprehensive
- Speaker uses eye contact to punctuate & dramatize specific points
PROFICIENT 8.0 – 9.0
- Direct and fairly comprehensive eye contact
- Some judges get more attention than others
COMPETENT 6.5 – 7.5
- Some direct eye contact may focus too much or too long on a judge, OR
- May look over judges’ heads
BELOW GRADUATION STANDARD 0. – 6.0
- Rarely or reluctantly makes eye contact, OR
- Never makes eye contact
COMPONENT: Voice
DISTINGUISHED – 9.5 – 10.0
- Adapts volume to room
- Uses vocal variety
- Enunciates well
- Vocal expression always matches content
- Uses effective pauses
- Sincerity & vitality are evident
PROFICIENT 8.0 – 9.0
- Uses ample volume
- Varies rate & volume
- Enunciates most words clearly
- Vocal expression usually matches content
- Sincerity obvious, but vitality and enthusiasm are less so
