Art

Warwick Valley’s Art Department has long been a reflection of the rich arts community that thrives in the Town of Warwick. The arts curriculum invites students to develop an appreciation for, and understanding of, various artistic disciplines and the contributions art has made to our society. Our art program fosters opportunities for the development of unique problem-solving skills, imagination, creativity, and resourcefulness. This helps to create individuals who work independently, and create visually stimulating and thought-provoking artwork, who go on to become lifelong learners.  From the foundational course, Studio Art, to a wide variety of full and half-year courses in all different media, the curriculum is designed to encourage students to experiment and collaborate. Courses at the secondary level help students with this through a variety of hands-on applications, while also studying art history, art criticism, and strategies for personal expression. For students who intend to major in art, Warwick Valley offers many advanced courses, including a portfolio course intended to help students prepare for their journey into higher education.
