Graduation 2018 information and schedule

WVHS Graduation is 10 am on June 23, 2018

This year’s commencement ceremony will take place at 10 am on Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Depending on the weather, the ceremony will take place on the Warwick Valley High School football field, or in the high school’s New Gym.

If necessary, notifications about the location will be posted on the district website.

The administration, faculty, and staff members share the joy in this educational milestone with the goal to provide our students, families, and community members with a memorable and dignified graduation ceremony. We thank you, in advance, for your complete cooperation and support in making this a day one the students can reflect upon with pride.

  • Only those seniors who have successfully completed all graduation requirements will be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.
  • Seniors must return all their textbooks and/or have paid fines by June 15.
    Students with outstanding textbooks or fines will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.
  • The graduation rehearsal and graduation day agenda is posted below and was distributed to all seniors. 

Please note:

  • The cap and gown package will be distributed to seniors after rehearsal
  • Inside your cap and gown package there will be five tickets:
    – Three (3) gold tickets for the New Gym if graduation is moved indoors due to inclement weather.
    – Two (2) additional purple tickets for the auditorium live remote broadcast.
    For elderly and disabled attendees, the high school auditorium will be open to view the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on the big screen.
  • Please note that there are NO ADDITIONAL TICKETS for the indoor ceremony, as space is limited.

Graduation Day Dress and Behavior Guidelines

Our commencement ceremony is a solemn, dignified event that recognizes significant student achievement and accomplishment.

These are the participation guidelines:

  • GRADUATION is 10 am on Saturday, June 23.
    All Seniors are expected to be properly dressed and in their assigned classroom by 8:45 am.
    Final check-in is at 9 am.
  • Girls are to wear a dress/dress pants as part of the cap and gown attire.
  • Boys are to wear slacks, shirt, and tie.
  • Appropriate, dignified behavior is expected of all students. Behavior that disrupts the ceremony will not be tolerated, and any students involved in inappropriate behavior will jeopardize receiving their diploma.
  • Every graduate will have their photo taken by a representative from a professional photography company. These photographs may be ordered and purchased online approximately three weeks after graduation. The photography company will contact each graduate via email.
  • Please be considerate of others and do not stand, or block others’ views, to take photos.

Graduation Day

The Commencement ceremony is 10 am on Saturday, June 23, either on the high school football field or in the high school New Gym, depending on the weather. 

Graduation Schedule

Saturday, June 23  

  • 8:45-9 am
    Students report to the high school. Go directly to your assigned room (Rooms 103-129).
  • 9-9:15 am
    Students dress in cap and gown. Room leaders will take attendance.
    It is important that we know who is not here – we will make phone calls home to those whom are not checked in.
  • 9:15-9:30 am
    Administration will visit your room for a quick photo and check to see you are dressed appropriately.
    If you are not dressed appropriately, you risk not participating in the graduation ceremony.
  • 9:30-9:45 am
    Students will be called to line up in hallway
  • 9:45-9:59 am
    Student procession to the football field or to the New Gym
  • 10 am
    Commencement begins
  • After Commencement, report to the main lobby to pick up your diploma.

Mandatory Rehearsal

All seniors must attend the mandatory rehearsal 11 am on Friday, June 22 to go over the outdoor and indoor graduation procedures. If there are extenuating circumstances, you must notify Dr. Washington by June 15.

  • The cap and gown package will be distributed to seniors after rehearsal.
  • Inside your cap and gown package there are five tickets:

Rehearsal Schedule

Friday, June 22

  • 11-11:15 am
    Students report to rooms 103 to 129.  Last names will be posted outside each of these rooms. Beginning of the alphabet by last name, starts at room 103 and continues to room 129. Room leader will take attendance.  
  • 11:15-11:30 am
    Attendance will be collected by an administrator 
    Students will be asked to enter the hallway to begin the lineup. Stand at the locker with your name card on it
    Student who owe textbook money should report to the HSO to clear their accounts
    Students will receive their cap and gown package
  • 11:30-11:40 am
    Student procession to the new gym
  • 11:40 am-12 noon 
    Indoor graduation walk-through
  • 12 noon-12:10 pm
    Student procession to the football field
  • 12:15-12:45 pm
    Outdoor graduation walk-through
