Financial Aid Night is October 20

on October 14, 2016

An important change has been made to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

This year, you will be able to file your FAFSA as soon as October 1, the earliest it has ever been made available. This update is important because it allows you and your family to file for financial assistance sooner, giving you more time to evaluate your options. Most colleges (and the federal government), use the FAFSA to help determine a student’s eligibility for assistance in paying for college, making the FAFSA a critical part of the college enrollment process.

As a result of this change, the high school guidance department moved up the date for the annual Financial Aid Night to Oct. 20. Representatives from Marist College Financial Service Dept. presented a program highlighting and reinforcing pertinent information regarding the steps involved in acquiring and applying for financial aid, grants, and scholarships.

SUNY is offering two Financial Aid Days this fall to assist students and their families in applying for financial aid and completing the FAFSA. This year, the dates are October 15 and November 12.

These workshops are offered free of charge and are available at 41 locations throughout New York State (including at Orange County Community College on Nov. 12) to any student needing assistance with applying for financial aid. Students and families are encouraged to register online at, or by calling the SUNY Recruitment Response Center at 1-800-342-3811.
