February is Career and Technical Education Month

February 4, 2019

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month — a time when school districts across the country celebrate programs designed to prepare students for the workforce or to further their education.

Once an education path for those students only seeking vocational skills, CTE is now hailed as a pathway for students looking to build career skills, get a start on their college education or learn a skilled trade that will allow them pay for college.

At Warwick Valley High School, 63 percent of high school students pursue higher education through a four-year college, while many others directly enter the workforce with a highly technical skill set.

This school year, 64 Warwick Valley juniors and seniors are on a path to graduation through CTE offerings at the high school.

Warwick Valley High School offers three programs that prepare students for careers in law enforcement/criminal justice, cosmetology and video production. Students also study disciplines such as culinary arts, construction, engineering, fire science and healthcare at Orange Ulster BOCES (OU BOCES).

By choosing an education that includes career and technical training, Warwick students are getting an education that may boost their personal success, as well as the success of this region and the country.

Follow along – we’ll be celebrating Career and Technical Education all month long on our Facebook, and Twitter accounts.
