Feb. 29: Ryan Ferro, Athlete of the Week and State Champion Wrestler

Warwick Valley High School is proud to honor Ryan Ferro as this week’s Student–Athlete of the Week, sponsored locally by ALLSTATE Insurance Bill Garcia Agency.

The junior three-sport star (football, wrestling and baseball) won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championship at 152 lbs. this weekend. Ryan becomes Warwick’s second State Wrestling Champion, following in the footsteps of Mitch Wightman in 2011. Ryan’s wrestling resume includes a state title and three Section 9 titles, with an overall record of 148 – 36 for his career. He finished with an impressive 30 – 3 this year.

Ryan is a hardworking student and outstanding leader, demonstrated by his selection as football and wrestling captain. He was selected all league as a football player this fall and is a top infielder for the varsity baseball team. In his limited free time he works at Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center in Warwick. Ryan is the son of Ray and Susan Ferro of Warwick. His brother Michael attended Warwick and is a successful electrician in the city. His sisters, Jill (Class of 2011) and Nikki (Class of 2013), were outstanding student–athletes in Wildcat Country.
