“Empty Bowls” fights local hunger with pottery bowls, soup and fun!

WV Empty Bowls 2017Many thanks to those who joined together for a fun family evening at Warwick Valley High School, while helping fight hunger in our own community.

The “Empty Bowls” fundraiser was hosted on May 5 by the new High School Empty Bowls Club and community volunteers with Warwick Valley Empty Bowls.

WV Empty Bowls 2017Warwick Valley Empty Bowls is part of an organized effort to fight hunger in communities WV Empty Bowls 2017across the United States and in other countries.

Guests enjoyed a delicious meal of soups, bread, dessert and beverage. The event also featured a wide variety of beautiful handmade pottery bowls available for purchase, performances by talented WVHS student musicians, kids’ hands-on pottery activities, pottery demos and silent auction.

Many attendees purchased a pottery bowl as a reminder of the event and the cause. Many local potters have made and generously donated pottery bowls for Empty Bowls events. This year, bowls made by WV Empty Bowls 2017WVHS Empty Bowls Club members were also available for purchase.

Empty Bowls Club members worked with WVHS teachers and local potters to learn how to make, decorate and glaze bowls for the event.

Empty Bowls 2017 proceeds of over $1300 will benefit these organizations in the Town of Warwick that WV Empty Bowls 2017provide food or meals to those in need:

  • Backpack Snack Attack Program – for students in the Town’s public schools
  • Warwick Community Kitchen in Pine Island
  • Florida Community Food Pantry
  • Greenwood Lake Food Pantry
  • Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry
  • St. Peter Lutheran Church Food Pantry in Pine WV Empty Bowls 2017Island.
