School Security Supervisor

$25.50 per hour

Anticipated opening for School Security Supervisor in the Warwick Valley Central School District. The position will be 10 months Monday through Friday; schedule assigned to meet the needs of the District. School Security Supervisors work with Administration to identify and meet the District’s security and safety needs. The School Security Supervisor helps to provide the best security response during emergencies and the daily district-wide environment. They coordinate/supervise security and crowd control for all school functions, which include but are not limited to all occurrences during the school day and after school functions in all areas of the school district/buildings and the surrounding grounds. School Security Supervisors direct visitors to various offices/buildings in the District and monitor student activities in all areas of the District/building campus. Work is performed under the general supervision of a designated superior in accordance with established policies and procedures and requires the exercise of independent
judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include: Thorough knowledge of crowd control and security measures in a school setting; ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of others; ability to deal effectively with a school aged population and the general public; ability to decide on an appropriate course of action; ability to maintain order; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; good interpersonal and human relations skills; sound judgment to act and lead in emergency situations; maturity; good powers of observation; mental alertness; reliability; identifies training and equipment needs for the District; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

This position is competitive by the Orange County Department of Human Resources. All candidates must be eligible via the certified List of Eligibles from the Orange County Department of Human Resources. Should there not be a List of Eligibles, appointment will be provisional pending successful completion of an examination and placement on a List of Eligibles. Minimum qualifications are graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree and three (3) years experience in the security, safety, or law enforcement field, (1) year of which is in a supervisory capacity; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school diploma and five (5) years experience in the security, safety, or law enforcement field, (1) year of which is in a supervisory capacity.

Special Requirement: Must possess at the time of application (and maintain throughout employment), a current identification card reflecting registration by the State of New York, Division of Licensing Services, as a Security Guard.

NOTE: Active duty police officers in New York State are exempt from the Special Requirement. However, police officers separated from service (i.e. retired) are considered civilians and must register as a security guard and complete all training.

6 School Bus Drivers

Routes  7, 26, 61, 62, 63 and 64 

$23.03 – $26.23 per hour 

Effective immediately, there are 6 vacancies for School Bus Drivers, 10 month, Monday through Friday positions.  The routes are as follows:

#7 with an estimated time of 2 hours and 35 minutes in the morning (6:25AM – 9:00AM) and 2 hours and 20 minutes in the afternoon (2:00PM – 4:20PM).  Total time per day is 4 hours and 55 minutes.  

#26 with an estimated time of 2 hours and 35 minutes in the morning (6:25AM – 9:00AM) and 2 hours and 30 minutes in the afternoon (2:00PM – 4:30PM).  Total time per day is 5 hours and 5 minutes.

#61, 62, 63 and 64 Standby/Substitute Driver (4) with an estimated time 2 hours and 15 minutes in the morning (6:00AM – 8:15AM) and 2 hours and 15 minutes in the afternoon (2:00PM – 4:15PM).  Total time per day is 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The work involves responsibility for driving a school bus on an assigned route and may require the performance of minor maintenance tasks in connection with such operation.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include:  good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a bus under difficult driving or hazardous road conditions; ability to make minor repairs to the vehicle; general intelligence; ability to establish good relationships with children and others and command their respect; mechanical aptitude; mental alertness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum qualifications at time of appointment are possession of a valid and clean Class B Commercial Driver License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement (CDL-B w/PS) and that the candidate is at least 21 years of age.

School Bus Driver

Route 39

$23.03 – $26.23 per hour

Effective immediately, there is a vacancy for a School Bus Driver on Route 39 with an estimated time of  1 hour and 35 minutes in the morning (6:20AM – 7:55AM) and 2 hours and 55 minutes in the afternoon (1:50PM – 4:45PM).  Total time per day is 4 hours and 30 minutes.  This is a 10-month position, Monday through Friday.

The work involves responsibility for driving a school bus on an assigned route and may require the performance of minor maintenance tasks in connection with such operation.

Part Time Bus Driver

The district is hiring part time school drivers on a regular basis. Pay starts at $19 per hour for Class B drivers with P and S endorsements.
