District suspending in-person instruction at Sanfordville Elementary School and Warwick Valley Middle School

October 29, 2020

Dear Warwick Valley Schools families, staff, and students,

Today we received confirmation from the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH) that one student at Sanfordville Elementary School and one student at Warwick Valley Middle School have tested positive for COVID-19, and were in attendance during their infectious periods. There were direct or proximate contacts as a result of the positive student cases. The children and/or staff who were in direct or proximate contact with the infected students will be contacted by our staff and/or the OCDOH, and are being instructed to quarantine for 14 days from the last date of contact.

To allow time for a complete communicable disease investigation, contact tracing, and out of an abundance of caution, Sanfordville Elementary School and Warwick Valley Middle School will be operating in a full remote capacity beginning tomorrow, Friday, October 30, and continuing on Monday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 3. As you make your childcare plans, please know that we will be back in touch no later than Tuesday, November 3, if it is determined that we need to continue to suspend in-person instruction.

Please anticipate your child’s teacher contacting you with the instructional plan.

Due to medical confidentiality laws and out of respect for the families’ privacy, we are not able to release the names of the infected students. I assure you that we will keep everyone informed with any new, pertinent information we are permitted to share. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Orange County Department of Health at (845) 291-2330.

Sincerely,

Johnna Maraia
Principal, Sanfordville Elementary School

Georgianna Diopoulos
Principal, Warwick Valley Middle School

Dr. David Leach
Superintendent of Schools
