District provides update of 2023-2024 budget, including tentative tax levy increase

March 3, 2023

Dr. David Leach, Superintendent of the Warwick Valley Central School District, updated the Board of Education on March 2, 2023, regarding the ongoing budget development process for the 2023-2024 school year. The presentation included a review of the district’s projected revenues, as well as a preliminary tax cap projection and tax levy history.

In the upcoming school year, the tax cap (also known as the tax levy increase) is 4.47%. However, the district administration and board have a history of reducing the financial burden on taxpayers. They are aiming to reduce this year’s levy increase by $471,157 to 3.74%, which requires approval from a simple majority.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Meghan McGourty then shared the results of student testing, which show a very solid return on investment for taxpayers within the district as indicators show that the district is at the top of test scores in nearly all categories.
