District Honors Dr. Melanie Kolacy with Annual PTA Volunteerism Award

September 22, 2020

Warwick Valley Central School District has presented the Jodi Denmead Outstanding Parent Volunteer Award to deserving volunteers for more than a decade. The award honors the memory of Jodi Denmead, a parent volunteer who played a very active role in our schools’ Parent Teacher Associations.

The 2019-2020 award recipient is outgoing PTA Council President Dr. Melanie Kolacy. The award was presented to Dr. Kolacy by Elizabeth Simon, the outgoing PTA Council Vice President, who expressed appreciation for Dr. Kolacy’s many years of volunteerism and dedication to the Warwick Valley Central School District and its students.

“Melanie has served our district’s PTAs for 10 years – in fact, maybe a bit more,” said Simon. “That includes eight years of Board positions at Sanfordville Elementary, the Middle School, and the Warwick Valley PTA council, where she has been Secretary, Treasurer, Co-President and President.”

Dr. Kolacy’s volunteerism has also seen her chair some of the District’s most popular events, such as Sanfordville Circus Week and Movie Night, and the Middle School Harvest Dance. An amazing baker and cake decorator, Dr. Kolacy led enrichment classes on cupcake decorating at Sanfordville, which were so popular they filled up almost as soon as they became available.

“[Dr. Kolacy’s] countless hours of service, her creativity and support, her willingness to always lend a hand, and her dedication to Warwick Valley Schools have been a great benefit to our PTAs, our families, and our children,” said Simon. “I can think of no one more deserving of this award than Dr. Melanie Kolacy.”

The PTA Council is the umbrella organization of the four WVCSD PTAs, and the direct liaison and communication link to the Hudson Valley Regional PTA and NYSPTA.
