“Discipline is NOT a Dirty Word” Parenting Workshop Series begins Nov. 28

on November 19, 2018

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting another parenting workshop series this year – the highly requested workshop entitled “Discipline Is Not a Dirty Word.”

This experiential workshop is designed to meet the needs of parents with young children, ages 2-12 years. The goal of this program is to provide parents and caregivers of young children with an understanding of age-appropriate behavior and realistic expectations regarding young children.

Discipline is NOT a Dirty Word—Most parents agree that getting their children to behave is both important AND difficult.

This program series will help parents and caregivers learn and practice seven basic principles of positive AND persuasive discipline.

Some of the things you will learn include:

  • The type of parenting style you have and what works best
  • Why children act the way they do
  • Ways to communicate so kids will listen
  • How to thrive with spirited children
  • How to become an emotion coach for your child
  • Ways to set limits and what are appropriate limits
  • The importance of healthy family relationships
  • The role of media and technology in your child’s life

Cornell Cooperative Extension will present this four-week parenting series on Wednesdays, beginning on Nov. 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the Park Avenue Elementary School Library.

The dates are currently set to include:
– November 28
– December 5
– December 12
– December 19
+ Scheduled snow dates of December 6 and 13.

This workshop is limited to 25 families, and Cornell charges a $40. fee per family. This fee includes any materials to be handed out.

Families will be registered on a first come, first serve basis as registrations are received.

If you’re interested in attending this program, go to the WVCSD Counselors Corner webpage for the registration form.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give one of us a call.
