School Bus Driver – Route #41
Transportation Department
$27.72 – $31.43 per hour 

There is a vacancy for a School Bus Driver in the Warwick Valley Central School District Transportation Department.  This is a 10-month Monday – Friday position.  The route is as follows:

Route #41 – Morning - High School/Middle School and 7:30 AM Arden Hill/CTech – with an estimated time of 2 hours and 10 minutes (6:35 am – 8:45 am); Midday – PM CTech – with an estimated time of 1 hour and 20 minutes (11:40 am – 1:00 pm); and Afternoon – High School/Middle School and Sussex Christian School with an estimated time of 2 hours and 30 minutes (2:00 pm – 4:30 pm).  Total time per day is 6 hours.  

The work involves responsibility for driving a school bus on an assigned route and may require the performance of minor maintenance tasks in connection with such operation.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include:  good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a bus under difficult driving or hazardous road conditions; ability to make minor repairs to the vehicle; general intelligence; ability to establish good relationships with children and others and command their respect; mechanical aptitude; mental alertness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum qualifications at time of appointment are possession of a valid and clean Class B Commercial Driver License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement (CDL-B w/PS) and that the candidate is at least 21 years of age.  Training is available if needed.

School Monitor – Park Avenue Elementary School
$20.24 - $22.09/hour

There is a vacancy for a School Monitor in the Warwick Valley Central School District at Park Avenue Elementary School. This position will be considered 10 months, 3 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

The monitor will be responsible for supervision of students and maintaining order and discipline of all students while on school property. The monitor may also perform miscellaneous clerical tasks.

Automotive Mechanic (Mechanic I)
Transportation Department
$63,631 - $74,347

There is a vacancy for an Automotive Mechanic (Mechanic I) in the Transportation Department.  This is a 12-month, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day position.

This is skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of automotive repair tasks.  Instructions are received regarding the tasks to be performed.  Does related work as required.  Typical work activities include, but are not limited to, general repairs on diesel and gasoline motor equipment such as trucks, buses, tractors, snow plows, pumps and generators; repair ignition and electrical systems; operates machine shop equipment including lathes, drill presses and other metal working machines to make and repair parts for automotive equipment; assembles and times engines; repairs or overhauls brakes systems, differentials, transmissions and front and rear axles; may operate electric or acetylene welding and cutting equipment; operates various types of motor equipment in connection with repair work.  May be required to operate a bus, mobile unit, snow plows or other motor driven equipment.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include:  good knowledge of standard automotive repair methods and/or the terminology, tools and safety precautions of the trade; demonstrated ability to make repairs to automotive equipment; ability to work from plans and specifications; ability to understand written and oral directions; hand/eye coordination; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum qualifications at time of appointment are Two (2) years of experience involving automotive repair or automotive maintenance.  Special Requirement:  May be required to possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License in a class appropriate to the requirements of the Appointing Authority.

Maintenance Mechanic

There is a vacancy for a Maintenance Mechanic in the Buildings and Grounds Department of the Warwick Valley Central School District.  This is a full-time, 12-month position for eight (8) hours per day 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday through Friday.  School breaks and summer schedule to be assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds to accommodate the needs of the District.

The work involves responsibility for the efficient performance of varied maintenance and repair tasks in connection with the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment including performance of carpentry, plumbing, steam fitting, mechanical repairs; operating and performing maintenance on high pressure and other heating systems; servicing electric motors and related electrical equipment; repairing various types of floors; painting interior and exterior surfaces; and repairing roofs.  May assist electrician in installing, replacing and/or repairing electrical wiring.  May salt and shovel walkways and operate a plow; mow lawns using power lawn mowers; and participate in a variety of grounds keeping activities including seeding, grading, pruning, trimming and spraying.  Does related work as required.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include: Good knowledge of the practices, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment; working knowledge of the operation of mechanical equipment; mechanical aptitude; ability to follow oral and written directions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.  All work subject to change by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:  Two (2) years of experience in general building maintenance or building trades work.  Electrical experience preferred.  NOTE:  May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in a class appropriate to the requirements of the appointing authority.

This position is classified as non-competitive by the Orange County Department of Civil Service.
