School Security Aide

There are anticipated vacancies for School Security Aide in the Warwick Valley Central School District. These positions will be considered 10 months, 4 hours, 15 minutes per day, Monday through Friday; schedule assigned to meet the needs of the District.
School Security Aides are responsible for security control of a school building and the surrounding grounds. Security Aides direct visitors to various offices and monitor student activities in areas of the campus. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Principal in accordance with established policies and procedures and requires the exercise of independent judgment in response to student disturbances. Does related work as required.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities include: good knowledge of crowd control and security measures in a school setting; ability to deal effectively with a school-age population and the general public; ability to decide on an appropriate course of action; ability to maintain order; good interpersonal and human relations skills; sound judgment to act in emergency situations; maturity; good powers of observation; mental alertness; reliability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
These positions are competitive by the Orange County Department of Human Resources. Current competitive School Security Aides are eligible for transfer; all other candidates must be eligible via the certified List of Eligibles from the Orange County Department of Human Resources. Should there not be a List of Eligibles, appointment will be provisional pending successful completion of an examination and placement on a List of Eligibles.

School Security Supervisor

There is a vacancy for School Security Supervisor in the Warwick Valley Central School District. This position is 10-months, 4 hours, 15 minutes per day, Monday through Friday; schedule assigned to meet the needs of the District.
School Security Supervisors work with Administration to identify and meet the District’s security and safety needs. The School Security Supervisor helps to provide the best security response during emergencies and the daily district-wide environment. They coordinate/supervise security and crowd control for all school functions, which include but are not limited to all occurrences during the school day and after school functions in all areas of the school district/buildings and the surrounding grounds. School Security Supervisors direct visitors to various offices/buildings in the District and monitor student activities in all areas of the District/building campus. Work is performed under the general supervision of a designated superior in accordance with established policies and procedures and requires the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required.

This position is competitive by the Orange County Department of Human Resources. All candidates must be eligible via the certified List of Eligibles from the Orange County Department of Human Resources. Should there not be a List of Eligibles, appointment will be provisional pending successful completion of an examination and placement on a List of Eligibles. Minimum qualifications are graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree and three (3) years experience in the security, safety, or law enforcement field, (1) year of which is in a supervisory capacity; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school diploma and five (5) years experience in the security, safety, or law enforcement field, (1) year of which is in a supervisory capacity.
Special Requirement: Must possess at the time of application (and maintain throughout employment), a current identification card reflecting registration by the State of New York, Division of Licensing Services, as a Security Guard.
NOTE: Active duty police officers in New York State are exempt from the Special Requirement. However, police officers separated from service (i.e. retired) are considered civilians and must register as a security guard and complete all training.

There is a vacancy for an Automotive Mechanic (Mechanic I) in the Transportation Department. This is a 12-month, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day position.
This is skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of automotive repair tasks. Instructions are received regarding the tasks to be performed. Does related work as required. Typical work activities include, but are not limited to, general repairs on diesel and gasoline motor equipment such as trucks, buses, tractors, snow plows, pumps and generators; repair ignition and electrical systems; operates machine shop equipment including lathes, drill presses and other metal working machines to make and repair parts for automotive equipment; assembles and times engines; repairs or overhauls brakes systems, differentials, transmissions and front and rear axles; may operate electric or acetylene welding and cutting equipment; operates various types of motor equipment in connection with repair work. May be required to operate a bus, mobile unit, snow plows or other motor driven equipment.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities include: good knowledge of standard automotive repair methods and/or the terminology, tools and safety precautions of the trade; demonstrated ability to make repairs to automotive equipment; ability to work from plans and specifications; ability to understand written and oral directions; hand/eye coordination; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum qualifications at time of appointment are Two (2) years of experience involving automotive repair or automotive maintenance.
