Dec. 5: Valerie Cruz, Athlete of the Week

WVHS Athlete of the Week, Valerie CruzWarwick High School is proud to recognize senior Cheer Captain Valerie Cruz as this week’s Bill Garcia Agency ALLSTATE Student-Athlete of the Week.

Valerie is a four-year Varsity Cheer Leader and two-year Team Captain for the Wildcats.

She is one of the team’s top tumblers and will lead the Wildcat Winter Competition Cheer Team this fall as they compete for a Section 9 Title (recognized as a Winter Sport since 2013).

Valerie’s overall grade point average of 93.2 puts her in the top 20% of her class, where she has been a 4-year Honor Roll Member (90 average or higher).

She volunteers as a Youth Cheer Coach in the fall and Competition Cheer Coach in the winter.

Valerie takes a challenging course load which includes six college level courses, including SUNY Orange Algebra and Trigonometry, SUNY Orange Calculus, Spanish 4H through SUNY Albany and AP World History.

Valerie has applied to the University of Connecticut, Penn State and SUNY Stony Brook, where she plans to study Pre-Med.

She is the daughter of Daisy and Rodolfo Cruz of Warwick. Her sister Natalie is a 2012 graduate of Warwick High School, and her sister Melanie is an 8th grader at Warwick Valley Middle School.
