COVID Update: 2.4.2021

February 4, 2021

Dear WVCSD Community,

Today, we received notification that two (2) high school students, one (1) middle school student, and one (1) Sanfordville student have tested positive for COVID-19. These cases were reported to us but have not yet been confirmed by the Orange County Department of Health. These students were not in school during their infectious periods.

The following overview will provide you with a summary of positive cases which occurred this week:

  • Sanfordville ES:  Two (2) students tested positive who were not in school during their infectious periods.

  • Middle School: Two (2) students tested positive. One (1) student was not in school during his/her infectious period. The other student was in school during his/her infectious period, which resulted in the quarantining of nine (9) adults and fourteen (14) students.

  • High School: Three (3) students tested positive. All three (3) students were not in school during their infectious periods. One (1) staff member did test positive.  This staff member was in school during his/her infectious period, which resulted in the quarantining of four (4) students.

  • Other: One (1) District employee, who does not work in one assigned school building, tested positive. He/she was at work during his/her infectious period, which resulted in the quarantining of three (3) staff members.

We continue to update our COVID-19 Dashboard/Report Card daily  New York State’s COVID Report Card. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) considers Pine Island ES as a Sanfordville Elementary satellite school. Therefore, the NYSED requires the District to add Pine Island School’s COVID-19 cases to the Sanfordville Elementary report.

Please continue to keep your child and his/her siblings home if they feel ill or are awaiting COVID test results.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Leach
Superintendent of Schools
