COVID Update 1.26.2021

January 26, 2021

Dear WVCSD Community,

Throughout the year, we continue to provide regular updates about any COVID-19 infections in our schools. We make every effort to quickly communicate such information to the students, staff, and families directly impacted by a reported positive case in our schools as soon as possible. When these situations arise, our administrative team reaches out to parents and staff, weekends and after-school hours included, to inform them.

Today, we received notification that one (1) high school student has tested positive for COVID-19. This case was reported to us but has not yet been confirmed by the Orange County Department of Health.

Saturday evening, we notified Sanfordville Elementary School families that one (1) employee had tested positive and contacted all students and staff in direct or proximate contact with the infected staff member.

We also keep our community apprised of cases where no known direct or proximate contact with positive individuals occurs. To this end, we update our COVID-19 Dashboard/Report Card daily—New York State’s COVID Report Card. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) considers Pine Island ES as a Sanfordville Elementary satellite school. Therefore, the NYSED requires the District to add Pine Island School’s COVID-19 cases to the Sanfordville Elementary report.

While we will not routinely send a separate communication to report cases with no known contact/exposure, you can review a summary of positive cases which occurred this week below.

  • Sanfordville ES: One (1) student enrolled in the Distance Learning Academy.
  • Middle School: Two (2) students and one (1) staff member tested positive but did not report to school during the infectious period.
  • High School: One (1) student tested positive but did not report to school during the infectious period.

Please continue to keep your child and his/her siblings home if they feel ill or are awaiting COVID test results.

Sincerely,

David Leach
Superintendent of Schools
