COVID-19 Update 11.5.20

November 5, 2020

Dear Warwick Valley CSD High School Parents, Guardians, and Staff,

As a follow-up to yesterday’s communication (i.e., COVID-19 Update.11.4.20, HS REMOTE ONLY), this morning, the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH) confirmed three positive COVID-19 cases of high school seniors.

Throughout the day, the families of an additional five high school seniors informed the District that their children tested positive for COVID-19. Assuming that the OCDOH confirms these cases, including the three aforementioned confirmed cases, a total of eight high school seniors will have recently tested positive for COVID-19. As we await confirmation, District administrators and staff are in the process of contacting those who are required to quarantine. We will also work with the OCDOH to complete the communicable disease investigations and confirm that no other person was in direct or proximate contact with the students during their infectious periods while in school.

In consultation with the OCDOH, the Warwick Valley High School will remain on a 100% remote instructional model through Monday, November 16, 2020, with a return date of Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

To keep all stakeholders fully informed, New York State’s COVID Report Card is available for your review. This report includes positive COVID-19 cases once the OCDOH has confirmed them. As the presumed cases mentioned above become confirmed, or if additional confirmed positive cases emerge, the report will be updated daily to reflect these changes.

Due to medical confidentiality laws and out of respect for the families’ privacy, we cannot release the infected students’ names. I thank the families who have shared their high school seniors’ COVID-19 diagnoses with the school district. This information will likely mitigate further spread. As always, we ask that all students and families follow COVID-19 safety protocols while not in school.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Maggie Adams, Coordinator of Health, at 845-987-3000, extension 12710, or your child’s building principal.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and cooperation.

Sincerely,

David Leach
Superintendent of Schools

Marguerite Fusco
High School Principal
