Covid-19 Update.11.3.20

November 3, 2020

Dear Warwick Valley Schools Families, Staff, and Students,

We have important follow-up information on our recent communications regarding the temporary suspension of in-person learning at Sanfordville Elementary School, Warwick Valley Middle School, and, subsequently, Pine Island Elementary School. And, a suspected, new positive case to report at Warwick Valley High School.

Pine Island Elementary School, Sanfordville Elementary School, and Warwick Valley Middle School will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4. For hybrid students, cohort A will receive in-person instruction tomorrow. Working with guidance from the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH), a comprehensive communicable disease investigation at the school level is complete. Thanks to careful contact tracing, the district has notified all students and staff required to quarantine.

Earlier today, we learned of a suspected, positive COVID-19 case involving one student (cohort B) at Warwick Valley High School. The individual attended school for about 80 minutes on Monday, November 2. Contact tracing at the school level is complete. District administrators have spoken to the students’ parents and staff who are required to quarantine. While this case has not been confirmed by the OCDOH, out of an abundance of caution, the District has taken considerable action to quarantine all students who had contact with the infected student within the school.

Warwick Valley High School will remain open for in-person instruction.

If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse or building administration.

As always, we thank you for your continued support and understanding.

 Sincerely,

David Leach,

Superintendent of Schools
