The Warwick Valley High School girls basketball team’s season, unfortunately, came to an end as the Wildcats fell to Corning-Painted Post, 54-52, in a nail-biting conclusion to an exciting NYSPHSAA Elite 8 matchup on Sunday, March 13 at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.

The Hawks built a stiff lead over the Wildcats, ending the first quarter with a 16-6 lead. The teams balanced things out in the second quarter, but Corning-Painted Post still held a 31-18 halftime lead. At the start of the third quarter, momentum shifted and the Wildcats closed the gap to under 10 points, 34-25, midway through the quarter before the Hawks fought to end the third quarter with a 46-35 lead.

The Wildcats showed resiliency throughout the game and roared back by dominating the Hawks in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to just two points to end the scoring at 54-52, Corning.
