Dear Warwick Valley CSD Families,

This morning, the Warwick Hope Chest posted a message on social media stating the District will reopen the Pine Island Elementary School as a site for the upcoming school year. Consequently, allow us to clarify our planning as related to reopening schools.

Given the limited time available and the continually evolving pandemic landscape, the District is looking at all available options to prepare for September. Pine Island Elementary School’s possible use as a means to facilitate more effective physical distancing represents just one of many options that we are considering. For this option to be viable, it required the District to notify its Pine Island Elementary School’s tenants immediately.

Last night, the WVCSD Re-Opening Schools Task Force convened for its first meeting. This task force includes multiple stakeholder groups, such as district and school-based leaders, teachers, parents, health care professionals, and Board of Education members. This team’s purpose is to guide our District through the critical decision-making process required to open schools safely. While New York State has yet to publish guidelines, it is essential to move forward with our planning. Please anticipate a press release this evening, and another next week, providing more information.

I understand you may have questions specific to your child’s school or personal circumstances. We are working through this process as quickly as possible, and ask that you remain patient with us.

Sincerely,
David Leach
