Dear Warwick Valley CSD Families,

The Warwick Police Department investigated a report from a middle school student of a suspicious incident on Main Street this morning. The middle school student reported to the school resource officer that an adult, unknown to the student, offered to drive the middle schooler to school. The police quickly identified the adult in question, investigated the matter, and informed me a few minutes ago that they did not deem the matter to be a threat.

As an educator and parent, while this incident was quickly and thoroughly investigated by police, we can all agree that such a report is very unsettling. For parents of students in primary grades, please remember that we do require students to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to the bus stop and to meet them at the end of the school day as well. I encourage all parents to take this time to discuss this subject matter with their children and, if they wish, to reach out to their child’s school counselor to learn more about age-appropriate strategies and discussions.

Sincerely,

David Leach
