Dear WVCSD Families, Staff, and Students,

I am writing to you to update the number of positive cases our District has experienced during the holiday pause and those reported this school week. The cases that occurred during the WVCSD pause did not result in close contact exposures of any other students and staff. Please remember that the New York State’s COVID Report Card is available for your review to keep all stakeholders fully informed.

Pine Island Elementary: No new cases were reported this school week. During the “Holiday Pause,” one student tested positive; however, he/she wasn’t in the school building during the infectious period.

Park Avenue Elementary: No new cases reported.

Sanfordville Elementary: Today, we learned that a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 and was in the school building during the infectious period. This case resulted in the quarantining of eight students and one additional staff member.

The District was notified on Tuesday that two Sanfordville students tested positive for COVID-19. Both students were not in the school building this week.

During the “Holiday Pause” one Sanfordville student and two staff members tested positive.

Middle School: Last evening, the District learned that a middle school staff member tested positive for COVID-19. While the staff member was not in the school building with students during his/her infectious period, this case resulted in two other staff members’ quarantining.

During the “Holiday Pause” one middle school staff member tested positive.

High School: Earlier this week, a high school staff member and two students tested positive for COVID-19.

During the “Holiday Pause” nine high school students and two staff members tested positive.

On Monday, instruction for Cohort A will continue in person for those students who selected it in grades 3 to 8. K-2 students will continue to attend every day. And, high school students will continue to learn remotely until Monday, January 19, after the New Year’s pause. Please continue to be mindful that our plans are always subject to change based on new information on positive COVID cases in our schools or new data becomes available. If the District receives any updates on positive cases throughout the weekend that require us to change our instructional model, we will be in touch as soon as possible.

We are very grateful for your support, understanding, and cooperation as we work together during these very challenging times.

Sincerely,

David Leach

Superintendent of Schools
