No students injured after bus incident

September 6, 2019

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, a Warwick Valley school bus transporting the girls varsity tennis team was involved in a collision on I-84 in the Town of Montgomery.

The school bus hit a tree as it was entering the Maybrook exit.

Twenty-two students were on the bus. They were checked at the scene for injuries and transported to the Montgomery State Police barracks, where medical clearance was given. The driver was taken to the hospital and remains under care.

Parents were notified and met students at the barracks to bring them home. Warwick Valley High School Principal Marguerite Fusco joined students the barracks and stayed with them until parental pick up was complete.

The district sent a message to all Warwick Valley families and staff members through its SchoolMessenger system.

The safety of our students is always our first priority. We are grateful to the local emergency medical services and law enforcement agents for their quick assistance to our students and coach, and to students’ families for their understanding.
