Warwick Valley Central School District residents Tuesday approved the proposed $88.2 million budget for the 2016-17 school year with 74.2 percent approval, or 1,159 yes votes to 403 no votes.

Residents re-elected current Board members Denise Ginley, Keith Parsons and Eilleen Gagliano to additional 3-year terms on the Board of Education with 1,205 votes, 1,104 votes, and 1,074 votes respectively. Receiving 1,049 votes was Robert Howe, who will fill the other open seat for a one-year term, completing the original three-year term vacated by Shannon Hockswender. Jennifer Echevarria received 730 votes.

The separate school bus purchase proposition passed by a margin of 62.4 percent – 968 yes votes to 584 no votes.

“The board is extremely grateful for the community’s support,” Board of Education President Lynn Lillian said. “We thank everyone who participated in the process and came out to vote today.”

The 2016-17 budget reflects a 2.23 percent overall spending increase compared to this year. Because of an increase in state aid and non-tax revenue, there will be no tax levy increase.
