Boys soccer program welcomes new head coach

August 22, 2019

Warwick Valley boys soccer is welcoming new Head Coach Denis O’Connor who is taking the baton from 21-year veteran John VanPelt.

Coach VanPelt is still assisting JV players in a volunteer capacity, but the proud father of a senior soccer player at SUNY Oswego just can’t be in two places at once.

“I want to make as many of my son’s games as possible,” Coach VanPelt said. “We ask full commitment from our players, and I couldn’t give them anything less. This is my way of staying connected to the program, and helping Mr. O’Connor transition as head coach.”

Coach O’Conor is excited about his new role and confident in his athletes. “We have lots of returning players and strong leadership in the mix,” he said. “We are hoping to challenge for division in a section title.”

Two-year Captain Cody Green, a senior, is excited about the team’s new class A standing and sees his primary role as leading by example in, and out of the field.

“There’s good team spirit and we want to build our game and chemistry,” Cody said. “If we can’t get much better, we can get closer.”Soccer players in action
