“Banana Splits” support groups are forming at WVMS

October 10, 2019

“Banana Splits” groups are forming at Warwick Valley Middle School. These support groups are designed to help children handle emotions that parental separation and divorce can evoke.

Banana Splits helps establish peer support of children who share feelings of loss and change. Together students confront and learn to deal with the ongoing issues relating to recent or past family changes.

Students will be grouped by their grade levels and will meet during advisory for approximately ten sessions. Please make sure your child understands that due to the nature and duration of the group, it is important that he/she attend each session. If your child has anything scheduled during advisory, such as AIS, orchestra, band or chorus, we will do our best to develop a workable schedule.

If you would like your son or daughter to participate in Banana Splits, please fill out the Parent Permission Form linked here. Your child should return it to the guidance office as soon as possible, as group space may be limited. If you have any questions regarding the program, please feel free to contact the guidance department at (845) 987-3100, ext. 5. Permission slips are also available in the middle school’s guidance office.
