Rocco Garcia was a four-sport student athlete (football, basketball, baseball and track) at WVHS from 1941-1943, and a team captain. He played for the 1943 Orange County League Championship in basketball and the Little Three Championship in football.

He attended high school at Park Avenue (now Park Avenue Elementary School) in a class of 35 students.

During his school years, the district owned three buses and gasoline was rationed because of World War II. Teams traveled to their four games a season in carpools subsidized by local farmers, who had unlimited access to gasoline.

Following his junior year, Rocco Garcia was drafted and served his country during World War II.  His brother was killed in active duty during the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Garcia was born on McEwen Street in Warwick, and has been married for 65 years to Claire Garcia, a former Wildcat cheerleader. The couple lives on West Street in Warwick, and they have three accomplished sons—John, Bill and Tom—all graduates of WVHS.

On behalf of ALLSTATE Insurance Bill Garcia Agency, WVHS is proud to recognize Rocco Garcia, Sr. as Warwick Student-Athlete of the Week.
