Counselor’s Corner

Counselor’s Corner

Park Avenue Elementary

The elementary school counselors play a vital role in situations where behavioral, emotional or social factors may interfere with a student’s ability to attain his/her educational and social/emotional potential. They assess student, teacher and parent concerns, provide both individual and/or group counseling to students and serve as a resource to staff and parents in working with the various needs of students. The counselors also provide classroom guidance lessons to K-5 classes, depending on particular requests and needs such as study skills and conflict resolution.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Beginning this year, the district is implementing Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) with all K-8 students and staff. PBIS is an approach to address student behaviors and includes proactive interventions and strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors. Each school has a system of acknowledgement to recognize students and motivate them to be their best in the classroom as well as on the playground, in the hallways, the cafeteria and on the bus.
