Running for a seat on the Board of Education

Board petitions & qualifications

Petitions to run for four available positions on the Warwick Valley Central School District Board of Education were made available March 7, 2016, in the District Office (Dorothy C. Wilson Education Center) at 225 West Street Extension. The petitions were required to be returned by 5 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2016.

The three board members whose three-year terms are due to expire this year are Eilleen Gagliano, Robert Howe, and Keith Parsons. Additionally, there is a one-year board seat available for the 2016-17 school year. (This is the remainder of the three-year term won by Shannon Hockswender, who resigned in Nov. 2015.) All board members are volunteers. These positions are unpaid.

Eligibility for election to the board

Each candidate or member of the Board of Education shall:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be able to read and write English
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be a qualified voter of the district
  • Be a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the election
  • NOT be an employee of the school district
  • NOT hold office if a member of his/her family is a member of the board
  • NOT simultaneously hold another incompatible office (e.g., town supervisor)
  • NOT have been removed from a school district office within one year of election
