School Security Supervisor
$27.60 per hour                      

There is a vacancy for School Security Supervisor in the Warwick Valley Central School District.  This position is 10-months, 4 hours, 15 minutes per day, Monday through Friday; schedule assigned to meet the needs of the District.

School Security Supervisors work with Administration to identify and meet the District’s security and safety needs.  The School Security Supervisor helps to provide the best security response during emergencies and the daily district-wide environment.  They coordinate/supervise security and crowd control for all school functions, which include but are not limited to all occurrences during the school day and after school functions in all areas of the school district/buildings and the surrounding grounds.  School Security Supervisors direct visitors to various offices/buildings in the District and monitor student activities in all areas of the District/building campus.  Work is performed under the general supervision of a designated superior in accordance with established policies and procedures and requires the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work.  Does related work as required.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include:  Thorough knowledge of crowd control and security  measures in a school setting; ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of others; ability to deal effectively with a school aged population and the general public; ability to decide on an appropriate course of action; ability to maintain order; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; good interpersonal and human relations skills; sound judgment to act and lead in emergency situations; maturity; good powers of observation; mental alertness; reliability; identifies training and equipment needs for the District; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

This position is competitive by the Orange County Department of Human Resources. All candidates must be eligible via the certified List of Eligibles from the Orange County Department of Human Resources.  Should there not be a List of Eligibles, appointment will be provisional pending successful completion of an examination and placement on a List of Eligibles.  Minimum qualifications are graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree and three (3) years experience in the security, safety, or law enforcement field, (1) year of which is in a supervisory capacity; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school diploma  and five (5) years experience in the security, safety, or law enforcement field, (1) year of which is in a supervisory capacity.

Special Requirement:  Must possess at the time of application (and maintain throughout employment), a current identification card reflecting registration by the State of New York, Division of Licensing Services, as a Security Guard.

NOTE:  Active duty police officers in New York State are exempt from the Special Requirement.  However, police officers separated from service (i.e. retired) are considered civilians and must register as a security guard and complete all training.

In addition to preparing and serving food, responsibilities also include acting as cashier and dishwasher, cleaning of kitchen equipment and performing related work as required.

There is a vacancy for a School Monitor/Attendant One on One in the Warwick Valley Central School District Transportation Department.  This position is a 10 month, Monday – Friday position with an estimated time of 1 hour and 55 minutes in the morning (6:20AM – 8:15AM) and 3 hours and 5 minutes in the afternoon (1:40PM – 4:45PM). Total time per day is 5 hours, schedule assigned by the Transportation Department to meet the needs of the District.

The monitor/attendant will be responsible for supervision of students and maintaining order and discipline of all students while on school property. The monitor/attendant may also perform miscellaneous clerical tasks.

There is a vacancy for Watchguard in the Warwick Valley Central School District.  This position will be considered 10 months, 4 hours, 15 minutes per day, Monday through Friday, schedule assigned to meet the needs of the District.

This work involves responsibility for safeguarding buildings, property, equipment and supplies during those periods when employees who are normally responsible are not present. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Principal in accordance with established policies and procedures. Typical work activities include making tours of buildings and grounds; observing security conditions; checking doors, windows and entrances to buildings and areas to make certain they are closed and locked; preventing admittance of unauthorized persons to premises; investigating any disturbances or unusual conditions; checks for fire hazards; preparing reports of tours of duty.  Does related work as required.  May check water level in tanks, gauges and operation of motors and pumps and report unusual variations to appropriate authority; may perform minor maintenance and repairs to machinery and equipment used on the location; may operate machinery and various automotive equipment as required. 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities and personal characteristics include but are not limited to: working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a watchman; ability to think and act quickly in an emergency; ability to decide upon appropriate courses of action in emergencies; willingness to work nights and unusual shifts; integrity and reliability; firmness; coolness in emergencies; good vision and hearing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
