Head Custodian – High School
$56,888 – $63,316/year

There is a vacancy for a Head Custodian at the High School.  This is a full-time, 12 month position for eight (8) hours per day Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  The position also requires working 2 additional hours per week from 5:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. to conduct run inspections of the building.

The work involves custodial duties and supervisory duties of daytime and evening custodial crews under the direction of the Director of Buildings and Grounds.  The work includes but is not limited to making minor repairs to furniture, equipment and buildings such as replacing broken windows, replacing light bulbs, and fuses, repairing door latches, adjusting seats and desks, etc.; plans and schedules work assignments for regular cleaning and maintenance of the building; be responsible for snow removal and operation of the proper equipment to do so – snow blower, tractor, etc.; and may perform a variety of miscellaneous activities consistent with the effective operation of a school building.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include: working knowledge of cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and ability to use them efficiently and economically; good knowledge of building operations; ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical repairs and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to understand and issue oral and written directions; ability to establish good working relationships; willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks; thoroughness; dependability; courtesy; good judgment; and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position, display excellent attendance and the ability to work well with others is required. All work subject to change by the Director of Buildings and Grounds.

Candidate must also have pool operator certification.  If the candidate does not have this certification, they will be required to obtain this certification in a reasonable time frame after hire.

This is a competitive position.  All applicants must be eligible via the competitive civil service eligible listing.  This is a replacement position.  Prior custodial experience is required.
