district
takes proactive approach to mrsa
Over the past several weeks there has been
a great deal of media attention regarding “staph”
infections; in particular, a type of infection caused by the
Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria (MRSA).
Fortunately there have
been no cases of MRSA reported in the Warwick Valley Central
School District or in the surrounding area.
As we take a pro-active approach to ensure the health of
students and staff, the District would like to stress the
importance of cleanliness in preventing MRSA. Proper hygiene
practices are necessary. Individuals should wash hands often
and uniforms, towels and equipment should be cleaned
regularly and at no time shared.
In addition any open wound should be thoroughly cleaned and
bandaged. If a wound is not healing, contact your doctor
immediately.
As a District we have provided information about the
transmission and symptoms of MRSA to administrators,
teachers, school nurses and coaches.
