Cross Country Girls Academic State Champions
Warwick Valley High School recognized its 25 Scholar–Athlete Teams and 1 Club that met academic standards of excellence set by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. In most cases the team would have to have 90 or better average by approximately 11 of its members in season to be considered a “scholar – athlete team.”
The Warwick Girls' Cross Country Team raised the bar with its top seven members having an average of 99.266, the top academic girls cross country team in the state. The twenty-two additional members of the team had academic averages over 90 in the fall. The team is coached by veterans Rich Furst and Ryan Candia. New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) representative Jim Wolfe presented the team with the NYSPHSAA Championship Scholar–Athlete Team Banner.
Over all, twenty-five different W.V.H.S. teams and clubs have been recognized by NYSPHSAA for achieving averages for a core number of students of over 90 during their sport season.
