PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
SANFORDVILLE VIES FOR FEDERAL 2012 BLUE RIBBON AWARD
January 11, 2012
Dear Parents of
It gives me a great deal of pleasure and
pride to inform you that
Please note that only 19 schools received this distinction in four different categories. In essence, we are one of the top five choices statewide for this wonderful recognition.
On behalf of our entire staff and teachers, I thank you for your educational support and strong parental interest in making Sanfordville students, “Pioneers for the 21st Century”.
Yours truly,
Roger Longfield, Principal
2011-12 Welcome Letter from Principal Roger Longfield
Dear Sanfordville Families for the 2011-2012 School Year,
First and foremost, I want to either welcome you back or welcome you for the first time to Sanfordville Elementary School!
Number-wise, we will have close to 700 students in our building. Please remember that students are expected to go to their classrooms at 8:35 a.m., with school officially starting at 8:45 a.m. Our school day ends at 3:15 p.m.
This year as you enter the halls of
Sanfordville Elementary School, look up and you will see that
we have given street names to our hallways and corridors. This
was done to highlight two of the new and exciting things that
are planned for this school year. The street names will help
you learn and practice to be polite, accountable, make wise
choices and always think safety first. If you notice the first
letter of each word underlined spells “PAWS”. Since the black
bear is our school mascot, we have adopted these behaviors to
promote and support an effective and safe learning
environment.
The other reason for the street signs is that we are going to have a letter and mail system in our school. Each and every staff member and every student will have a mailing address according to their street and room location. You will be able to write to friends, people you want to get to know, and maybe your favorite teachers. It should be a lot of fun.
As you probably are aware, we lost the services of Meeter-Greeter for this coming school year. In order to fill this void, we first of all developed a new plan for morning arrival and afternoon student pick-ups who do not take the bus. Secondly, our main entrance is only available through a surveillance system 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
In the morning, please follow the signs to
our Parent Drop-Off Point for students where the students can
enter the school. Then, in the afternoon, those parents who
have requested to pick up their child(ren) will be required to
enter the same door as the morning drop off and proceed
directly to our cafetorium beginning at 3 p.m.
Office staff will then release the students directly to you
after signing them out.
We hope that these procedures will ensure the safety of our
students.
Finally, the student class placement letters will be forthcoming, and please reference the 2011-2012 Sanfordville Elementary Student Handbook online by visiting www.warwickvalleyschools.com and clicking on Sanfordville home page link.
Yours truly,
Roger Longfield, Principal
