Kindergarten
has been having fun learning about our earth.
Cloud types, weather, plants, and how to become better
stewards of our planet, were integrated into every part
of the curriculum. An evergreen sapling was given to each
student to emphasize Earth Day and Arbor Day.
First Grade students compared and contrasted stories, events,
characters and places around the world when they were
reading stories about “Cinderella” in the many cultures.
The ”Flat Stanley” project they had been working on culminated
in a class trip to see a performance of The Adventures of Flat
Stanley
at Orange County Community College. In addition, First Graders
also discussed recycling and how to help our environment.
Second Grade focused on “our earth” activities as well. Earth
Day projects, Arbor Day Activities, the Water Conservation
Program, phases of the moon, and continents were only a part of
their learning activities. Evergreen saplings and a trip to see
a performance of The Adventures of Flat Stanley at Orange County
Community College were an added benefit.
Several
Third Grade classes are growing miniature mushroom gardens,
which they will harvest and eat at the end of their plant study.
They are researching famous people and sharing their reports
with each other. The Third Grade Choral Concert revealed the
hard work and talent of everyone involved.
Fourth Graders found the Bill of Rights very interesting. The
teachers were pleased with the lively discussions that were
inspired by this topic. Thanks to the early spring, the science
theme about plants and flowers gave students the opportunity to
observe and learn all about new plant growth.
