STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

STUDENTS WILL:
-be punctual, dress in proper attire, demonstrate a positive attitude, put forth acceptable effort in all activities, and follow all rules and procedures of the class and school.
-demonstrate good sportsmanship, civility and citizenship while engaged in all activities.

DRESS POLICY:

-Sneakers (with laces) that will provide good support are mandatory inside or out. Platform or elevated sneakers and back-less sneakers are not acceptable. Sandals, slippers or flip-flops are not allowed.

-Shorts, tee shirts, sweatshirts, sweat pants and windbreakers are all acceptable attire. A change of clothes to PE clothing allows for more freedom of movement and will encourage maximum participation in the activity.

-Students will be responsible for making up any unprepared classes.

CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE:

-Students are not allowed to have or use cell phones in class.

-Students should not bring any electronic devices into physical education. I-pods, games,
walkman’s etc.

-Students will not be allowed to bring food or drinks into the gymnasium.
 

SICKNESS OR MEDICAL NOTE:

-Students may be excused from participating in class due to illness upon request.

-Students will be responsible for making up any excused classes.

-Students with a doctor’s medical note will earn credit in a variety of ways. These may include: 1. Assist in class procedures such as: officiating, spotting and score keeping. 2. Handwrite a report on any topic relating to sports, wellness and physical fitness from books, magazines or from the Internet. Printed material will not be accepted.

-Students will inform their teacher of any medical restrictions such as asthma, bee sting allergy, etc.

MAKE-UPS:

-Students will be provided an opportunity to make up any missed physical education classes.

-Students will be able to make up classes for the following: excessive legal absence from school, excused and unprepared classes.

-Make up classes will be held at the end of the quarter and after school only from 1:55 to 2:35 p.m.

-BOCES students will be allowed to make up classes during the school day which includes
study hall or lunch.

-Students are responsible for notifying their PE teacher when making up a class by signing in the make-up logbook provided by the physical education staff.

-Make-up classes must be completed before the quarter concludes. One of the physical education teachers will supervise any make up session.

-Students will be allowed a total of four legal absences per quarter (eight per semester). If a student has more than four absences during a quarter they must be made up. (i.e. if a student misses 8 days of class during a quarter because of being absent from school he/she would have to make up 4 classes)

-P.E. make-ups are not a substitute for attending and participating in regularly scheduled
physical education.
 

GRADE REPORTING:

-Students will receive a Pass, Fail or Commendable based upon their participation, effort, cooperation, skill level and attitude.

-Students will be allowed two (2) unprepared classes per quarter, four (4) for the semester.

-Students who are unprepared for five (5) or more classes by the semester’s end will receive a failing grade for that semester. A failing grade for the semester will require the student to repeat physical education for another semester.

 

GRADUATION CREDIT:

-High school students must complete four years of physical education.

-Students will receive ½ credit each year upon successful completion of both semesters of
physical education.

-Students need 2 credits of physical education to graduate from high school.
 

CUT CLASSES:

-Students will receive a zero (0) for each class cut. A cut is when students are not in class when they are signed-in to school.

-Students who cut a physical education class will not be allowed to make that class up.
