NYS Regents exams

What
happens if there is a delay or school closing during Regents
Week?
January, 2009
During Regents Week (in January) if there is a two-hour delay, the 7:20 AM exams will be given at 9:20 AM and the 11:30 AM exams will be given at 12:20 PM. If school is closed, that day’s Regents exams are canceled.
But what if school is closed on Day Two of a two-part Regents exam?
When there is snow in the forecast, the question is asked as to what happens if one part of a two-day Regents exam (such as English) is given and the other day is lost due to a school closing.
Following is a clarification from the State Education
Department, detailing that
if only one day of a two-day exam
is taken, the entire exam must be retaken
during the next
normal Regents testing period – June, 2009.
This issue is addressed in the "Directions for Administering
Regents Examinations" informational booklet, which is sent
out to school administrators prior to each administration of
the Regents Examinations
and RCTs. For this January's administration, guidance can be
found
on page 8 of this document, available online at:
http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/osa/08-09memo/jan09/det541-109.pdf,
where the following is stated:
"...The Comprehensive Examination in English is administered
in two
three-hour sessions on separate days. To complete the
examination,
students must attend both sessions."
Coupled with the existing policy on examinations not
administered
due to inclement weather (see
Section One of the School Administrator's Manual) school
administrators may not count, as a complete administration,
only one administered session of the Regents Examination in
Comprehensive English if students have not completed both
sessions of the examination due to a school closing for
inclement weather.
