Warwick Valley High School music program selected as semifinalist in 2012 GRAMMY Signature Schools Program
The music program at Warwick Valley High School is one of only 125 high schools nationwide selected as a GRAMMY Signature School semifinalist for 2012.

Concert Calendars for 2011-12 

The following concert schedules will be posted as soon as they are available:

Bands

Orchestra (concert calendar and additional important dates)

• Chorus - The WVHS Winter Chorus concert will take place on Tues., Dec. 6,
   at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The snow date for this concert
   is Wed., Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. The Spring Chorus concert is on Tues., May 22,
   at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

2011-12 NYSSMA and OCMEA Competition opportunities
In addition to school concerts and performances, Warwick students have the opportunity to compete in programs sponsored by the Orange County Music Educators Association (OCMEA) and the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA). Visit the OCMEA and NYSSMA websites for the schedules of competition, audition and performance dates.


General Music Courses
Below is a list of all the music courses taught at WVHS:

Concert Band
Band is a course encompassing all aspects of instrumental music. The goal of the band is for its members to constantly progress in order to play more challenging and more interesting concert band literature. Prerequisite: Students must be proficient on traditional band instruments and able to read music. See Curriculum Guide for more information. (pdf)

 

Wind Ensemble
The wind ensemble is a performing group designed for more advanced study of traditional, classical and contemporary wind band literature. Prerequisite: Audition and Teacher Recommendation.

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is an after-school club directed by Mr. Persad. Students must audition to be able to participate in the Jazz Ensemble. Jazz Club meets Wednesdays from 2 to 3:00 p.m. The ensemble works on classical jazz pieces and improvisation and performs at several concerts during the school year.

 

Orchestra

Students who play violin, viola, cello, or string bass are invited to participate in the Orchestra.
Students receive a weekly homogeneous group lesson and a daily ensemble rehearsal. A variety of repertoire will be studied from different music periods. An audition is required for students who are not participating in a formal school instrumental program prior to enrolling in the course.

Orchestra Club

Orchestra Club meets after school with Ms. Gould. Students in Orchestra Club have an opportunity to learn more - beyond the regular orchestra repertoire. Students can learn and practice NYSSMA solo music, All County music, Area All State and chamber music on a more individual basis. Students who have a desire to play and learn more are encouraged to join. See Ms. Gould for more information.

 

Chorus Groups

There are several chorus group courses offered at the high school - Mixed Chorus, Meistersingers, Select Women's Chorus and Select Men's Chorus. Mr. Clark is the instructor for all groups. See Curriculum Guide for more information. (pdf)
