Involvement
Bridging home and school has remained a cornerstone of the PIE philosophy, providing educators with an invaluable support system, parents a window into their child's learning environment, and children with a sense of family involvement.
Multiage
Classroom
A second fundamental component is multiage grouping, which encourages noncompetitive, cooperative social interaction and supports each child on his/her own learning continuum. There is a two-year commitment to the multiage classrooms at the 1-2 and 3-4 grade levels, and a single grade PIE exists at the fifth grade level. PIE classes are housed at the Sanfordville Elementary and Kings Elementary Schools.
Integrated
Curriculum
The third essential element of PIE is an integrated curriculum approach to achievement of the NY State and District learning standards. This approach provides opportunities for students to build upon their strengths, interests, and experiences and assists them in making connections between and among the concepts and skills learned.
It is within this framework that PIE teachers endeavor to address the diverse needs and abilities of their students as well as establish a learning environment that promotes inquiry, creativity, industriousness and responsibility.
methods
Learning in the PIE classroom is literature-based, project-oriented, and thematically organized. Recognition of “Multiple Intelligence” and “Learning Styles” theories informs teacher practice and differentiates instruction. Multiple forms of assessment are used to evaluate student progress.

Steering Committee Mission Statement
The mission of the PIE Steering committee is to provide a forum in which the growth and development of the PIE program can be addressed by parents, teachers, and administrators; to foster communication between the partners in the program: to implement its goals and objectives; to disseminate pertinent information, and ultimately, to embody the spirit of Partners In Education.
