Voter Registration for the May 18 Budget Vote
and School Board
Election:
Who can vote?
All voters must be United States citizens, age 18 or older on election day, residents of the school district for 30 days immediately prior to Election Day, and registered. People sometimes ask if they must own property to vote. The answer to that is no. The only criteria for registering are that you are a district resident, a U.S. citizen, and age 18 or older.
how do I register?
Registration simply involves signing the form indicating that you are 18 or older, are a U.S. citizen, and will have lived in the district for at least 30 days immediately prior to election day.
You may already be registered:
If you have voted in either a school district election within the past year or a local general election anytime in the past four years, you are already registered.
If you are not registered:
Ongoing Voter Registration Through May 12 - The district is
holding open registration for
residents who want to register
prior to the May 18 budget vote. You may register any school
day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the District Office in the
Dorothy C. Wilson Education Center
on West Street Extension.
Voters can also obtain Orange County Board of Education
registration
forms at each of the school building offices or
by calling the District Office at 987-3021.
when and where do I vote?
By law, New York State school districts vote on the third Tuesday in May, which for 2010 is Tuesday, May 18. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at three locations:

Absentee ballots are available for voters who are unable to appear in person at the polls due to illness, physical disability, hospitalization or travel. Voters may obtain an application from the District Clerk, 987-3010, or can download the form below. The District Clerk must receive completed applications seven days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or one day before the vote if the ballot is to be picked up personally by the voter. Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m., May 18, 2010.
