The school district
clerk is appointed each year by the Board of Education at the
reorganization meeting of the board or later. The term of office
is for one school year, although the clerk continues in his or
her office until a successor is appointed
and qualified. If a
vacancy occurs, the board may appoint a successor. The clerk of
a union free or central school district can only be removed by
the Commissioner of
Education. The clerk in a city school
district serves at the pleasure of the board.

• Publicize Legal Notices
• Keep School District Records
• Attend Specified Meetings
• Receive Legal Papers
• Administer and File Oaths of Office
• Receive and File Absentee Ballots
• Use Board-established Petty Cash Fund
• Correspond for District
• Endorse and File Warrants
• Keep and Affix Official Seal of the School District
• Sign Staff Contracts and Salary Notices
• Official Undertakings
