Student Athlete to Sign National Letter of Intent
There will be a brief Press Conference on Tuesday, February 19th as Claire P. becomes our second female athlete to sign an athletic scholarship for womens’ track this year. Claire is expected to sign a national letter of intent and accept a full athletic scholarship to attend a Division I Northeast University…Stay Tuned for results. The press conference is all inclusive (everyone is invited to share in this special day for our track program and Claire's Family). The press conference will begin at 2:30 PM in the HS Media Center.

Great Season Leads to Tournament Bid
The Varsity Girls have earned a trip to the big dance (the section 9 basketball tournament) with one of the best seasons in many years. The girls have recorded 12 wins vs. 7 losses heading into the final games against Washingtonville (2/20) and at J. I. O’Neill (2/22). Wildcat girls were defeated by Kingston this past week but played with great resilience battling back from an early 1st quarter deficit. Kingston’s Kristin H. scored her 1000th point for the Tigers and joins an elite list of athletes in the state. Becky Hagerdon of Warwick (Class of 1983, scored 2000 points under Coach Fran Higgins in the early 1980’s).

Basketball
Wildcat boys defeated Washingtonville and Kingston this past week and look for high tournament seed and possible home game. The boys are currently 15 – 4 with only Burke left on the schedule. Malcolm B., Isai R., and Noel D. contributed 24, 20 and 18 points respectively in the 77 – 62 win over the Kingston Tigers. Boys are at Burke Catholic Tuesday and will await tournament seeding. Stay tuned. Section 9 hoop tournament begins February 25th and 26th.

and Girls Indoor Track
Boys and Girls Win Section Titles
The Boys and Girls indoor track teams took 1st place in the Section championships this past weekend at West Point. The boys scored 121 points to take the title, NFA was second with 68 points and Pine Bush was third (64 points). Brad A. (1600 Meters), Alex L. (3200 Meters), David K. (shot put 47’2”) and Ben B. (Pole Vault 14’0”) all finished first in the section for large schools in their events. The girls’ team finished first with 108 points, NFA was second with 76 and VC was third with 58. Claire P. (300 Meters), Lillian G. (1000 and 1500 Meters) and Jenna M. (Triple Jump 35’ 1”) all finished first in there events. The boys’ 1600 meter relay team of Karl S., Stephen K., Jesse T. and Mike F. finished first with a time of 3:32.2. The state qualifier is February 23rd at West Point.

Wrestlers Look to Section Tournament
The Varsity Wrestling Team dropped a tough match to Saugerties but not for lack of effort. Shane C. (96 lbs.), Kevin C. (125 lbs.), Sean P. (135 lbs.), Mitch W. (145 lbs.) and Chris V. (189 lbs.) won matches against Saugerties. The Wildcat Grapplers will look to make noise at the Section Championships taking place this week with finals on Saturday 2/23 at Monroe Woodbury HS. This is one of the most exciting events in Section IX athletics and is a can’t miss for wrestling fans. Winners will have automatic berth to State Championships March 8th.

The competition cheer team will compete in Section Championships at Kingston Saturday February 23rd. Varsity Cheer took 3rd place for dance at recent competition in Westchester County.

Scored 32 Points at Section Championships
Boys swim team continued on its path of improvement by scoring 32 points at the Section 9 Swim Championships at Valley Central. Wildcat coaches Antoinette and John Quinn as well as Chris Morgan were very excited about the teams’ effort and improvement all season.

Hockey (almost club status)
Behind strong senior leadership of Joel S., Brendan J. and Michael B., the Wildcat Hockey Team finished out the regular season with 12 wins 7 losses and 2 ties setting the best team record in the short history of the team. The team awaits a state tournament bid which will take place February 29th, March 1st and March 2nd.

Boys and Girls OCIAA Champions
The boys and girls ski teams finished first at the OCIAA championships. Jesse A. won the Section 9 Ski Championship for boys (combined slalom and giant slalom times) at Belleayre Mountain. Conor B. placed 12th overall. The boys’ team finished 3rd overall in the section behind Monticello and Onteora. The girls also placed 3rd in the section as a team. Anne D. P. (6th), Elise P. (8th) and Shanna W. (13th) all placed for the girls’ team. Anne D.P. and Elise P., along with Jesse A. qualified for the state meet February 25th – 27th.
