Ben B. has been selected as this week's Warwick Valley
High School Student – Athlete of the Week, sponsored by
ALLSTATE Insurance Bill Garcia Agency of Warwick.
The senior track star won the Orange County League Decathlon with a score of 4789 points. His efforts in the ten-event-meet included a long jump of 19’3”, a high jump of 5’10” and a discus throw of over 76 feet. Ben is one of the section's top pole vaulters with a height of 14’6” at the New York Relays earlier this spring. He is also the Section 9 indoor co–champ in the pole vault at 14’0”.
Ben takes time in the fall to train for the pole vault where he works out with Coach St. Lawrence’s Flying Circus. He competes in the purple track singlet during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Ben has decided to attend SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island where he will compete in the vault. He is an outstanding student who has already completed advanced placement (AP) classes for college credit in Calculus, Chemistry and U.S. History over the past two years. Ben names Coach Tim St. Lawrence and his parents Debbie and George B. as big influences in his life. Ben has a sister Charlotte (8th grade) and a brother Bob (10th grade). His stepsister Claire is one of the most respected female track athletes in the section.
