Kevin and Shane C. have been selected as this week's
Warwick Valley High School Student – Athletes of the Week,
sponsored by ALLSTATE Insurance Bill Garcia Agency of
Warwick. The brothers have made quite an impact on the
Warwick Athletic Programs this past year and look to
continue their success on the lacrosse field in the spring.
Senior Kevin C. played defense for the section champion boys soccer team and is one of the most respected wrestlers in the county. Kevin wrestled at 125 lbs and accomplished over 100 wins in his career as a varsity wrestler. Kevin’s leadership and character are evidenced by his selection as a team captain for Soccer, Wrestling and Lacrosse where he competes as a midfielder for a team with high aspirations this spring. Kevin is currently in the top 5 percent of his class academically, and has been accepted at Rochester Institute of Technology, Maritime, Georgia Tech, Binghamton, and is awaiting a decision from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. He intends to study engineering this coming fall.
Eighth
grader Shane is the 2008 Section IX wrestling champion at 96
pounds. He has wrestled on the varsity since 7th grade and
as an 8th grader completed a record of 35 wins against 5
losses. His overtime sectional victory put him in the state
tournament where he placed 8th. Shane played modified
football in the fall and will compete as a developing
lacrosse player with the high school team this spring.
Kevin and Shane are
the sons of Diane and John C. of Warwick. Their Sister Megan
(junior at the high school) is an accomplished XC and
lacrosse athlete. Look out for Brother Brian (7th grade) who
is coming through the middle school and is sure to leave big
footprints as a student – athlete for the Wildcats. The Bill
