Dan L. has been selected as this week's Warwick Valley
High School Student – Athlete of the Week, sponsored by
ALLSTATE Insurance Bill Garcia Agency of Warwick. The senior
baseball standout has been an important part of the team's 5
– 0 start.
As the starting first baseman, Dan has helped the Wildcats to victories over Monroe-Woodbury, Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) and Middletown in a tough week of non – league opponents. The three-year varsity player currently bats fourth in a powerful lineup, and his base hit with two out against NFA secured the Wildcats home 2 – 0 victory.
Dan feels the team's keys to success are built around team chemistry, and great defense. The lefty has already gotten 11 hits heading into this weekend's double-header with Goshen. Dan was also a standout on the Wildcat football team in the fall.
Dan carries a B average and is unsure what he will study in college. He has chosen to begin his education at OCCC before deciding his next move. He is a member of the schools’ Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and has great respect for his brother Phil who will be returning from his tour of duty in Iraq with the marines shortly. Phil was a Warwick graduate class of 2004. Dan L. is the son of Cheryl and Tom L. of Warwick. Look for Dan on the baseball diamond the next few months as the Wildcats make a run at the section title.
